Coaching for Individuals

Overview

This method of coaching involves one to one sessions either face to face or over the telephone. It can be coaching for your personal and/or professional life. The coaching is delivered through a series of weekly sessions lasting 30, 45 or 60 minutes each face to face, or 30 minutes over the phone. The sessions take place over a period of 3 months.

Although there is a structure to the coaching process, it is not fixed or a ‘one solution fits all’ structure. Every client has different needs and the coaching is tailored to suit each individual’s requirements.

At the Start

Once you have decided to go ahead with the coaching the first step is to complete a coaching agreement and questionnaire.

Coaching agreement – this is a contract that you sign up to which outlines the times and costs of the sessions, type of sessions (in person or phone), payment terms. Plus your commitment to keeping to the meetings, completion of any actions and your accountability to the coach.

Coaching questionnaire – this covers the following areas:

blue circle background information about your job, family and friends, likes and dislikes etc.

blue circle ‘professional balance wheel’: this asks you to rate areas in order of happiness/satisfaction and importance in your professional life, such as learning, work-life balance, relationships with colleagues, reward & recognition.

blue circle ‘personal balance wheel’: this asks you to rate areas in order of happiness/satisfaction and importance in your personal life. Areas include: your physical environment, fun & recreations, career, personal growth, money, health, friends & family, significant others/romance.

Intake Session

The first session known as the ‘intake session’ lasts for 1-2 hours. The responses to your questionnaire are reviewed during this session and used to identify your ‘primary focus areas’ for the coaching. These are the main areas that you want to concentrate on and achieve goals within. Setting these areas at the start will give you measurable outcomes to review and evaluate at the end. At this stage we also look at what your values and beliefs are, as these are key to the success and outcomes of the coaching.

Feedback Session

After your first three sessions there is a feedback session which is a chance to review the work you have done to date. It is important to make sure that you are happy with your progress, the levels of work you are receiving and the coaching techniques being used. This session also ensures that the coach-client relationship is working for you and gives you a chance to re-evaluate your focus areas.

Review & Evaluation

At the end of the 3 months there will be a session dedicated to a full review and evaluation of your work. This will enable you to look back at your primary focus areas and the goals that were set at the start to see if you have achieved what you set out to achieve. It is also important at this stage that you look at the progress you have made and acknowledge what has changed for you as a result of working with your coach.
