Outline
on Coaching
What
is coaching?
It is a common
misconception to think that coaching is like counselling, it is
not, it is completely different! Coaching is about helping people
to identify the areas they want to improve in their lives, the
goals they want to achieve and supporting them in making the necessary
changes themselves. It is a tool for unlocking your true potential.
Coaching is about being curious, exploring yourself and discovery
and not being judgemental of yourself.
What
can coaching do for you?
Clarify what you want to change in your life
Acknowledge your strengths and challenge your weaknesses
Re-focus and channel your energies in a positive way
Access what motivates you
Develop your inter-personal skills
Increase your confidence and improve your self esteem
Improve your relationships
Give you choices
Empower you to make the changes in your life
How
is coaching delivered?
Coaching can be delivered
through a series of one to one sessions either face to face or
over the telephone. It can also be delivered through group workshops.
Everything discussed is completely confidential.
How
do the coaching sessions work?
The sessions will
challenge your comfort zone and encourage you to assess and re-evaluate
each area of your life in relation to your personal values, beliefs
and who you really are. The aim of the sessions is to help you
find your own answers and solutions; to create strategies that
work for you and that can be broken down into manageable segments
with prioritised actions in order for you to make changes and
achieve your goals.
What
level of work and commitment is involved?
You will need to commit
your time and energy and work hard to get the most out of coaching.
Be prepared to try new things and step outside your usual comfort
zone. There will be tasks and work set between sessions to help
you practice what you have learnt and prepare for future sessions.
What
is NLP and how is it used in coaching?
NLP (Neuro Linguistic
Programming) is about the thinking, behaviour and language patterns
that we use to build strategies to help run our lives. We have
strategies for everything that we do in our lives but we are not
conscious of most of them. NLP can be used in coaching to unlock
our strategies and identify elements that can to be refined or
changed in order to achieve our goals.
NLP
can help you:
Manage change
Develop new ways of thinking to help you change as your external
world changes
Embrace feedback positively
Set goals
Heighten your awareness of yourself and others’ behaviour
Be more flexible
